Playing as a team - 14.4

Downtime and how to use it

In one line: A match is full of seconds where nobody shoots: the buy phase, the time spent dead, the side switch, the pauses where the format allows them. Strong teams use them to get informed, to agree and to calm down.

The seconds where nobody shoots

In a VALORANT match, shooting takes up only part of the time. The rest is downtime: the buy phase at the start of each round, the seconds spent dead while your teammates play, the side switch at half time, the pauses some formats (like certain tournaments) allow.

Many players use it to complain, to check their phone or to argue about the round they just lost. Strong teams use it for three things: getting informed, agreeing, calming down. It is not a small difference: added up, it is many minutes per match.
