Defense - 8.7
Retakes
In one line: Retaking a site after the plant is a race against time: 45 seconds on the spike, 7 to defuse. You win it by arriving together, gathering information, taking away the attackers' positions one at a time and protecting the defuser. Sometimes the right call is not to try.
What a retake is
A retake is the defense's attempt to take a site back after the attack has planted the spike, and to defuse it before it explodes. It flips the rest of the round around: now the attackers are set in chosen positions, and the defenders are the ones who have to go in.
That is why retakes are hard, and experienced players treat them like an attacking execute in reverse: gather information, use utility to take away the best positions, go in together, protect the defuser. With one important difference: here time is not on your side. You have 45 seconds from the plant, and the defuse takes 7.
