Attack - 9.2
Map control and defaults: a question, not a move
In one line: A default asks the defense where it is, and map control gains space you can choose from. A default that asks no questions, or pays for the answers with a dead player, is just wasted time.
A default is a question
The default is how the attack spreads across the map in the first 30-40 seconds of the round, before deciding where to execute. From outside it looks like a waiting phase: five players spread out doing nothing. In reality, done well, it is the moment the attack asks the defense questions.
Every player in a default is asking something:
- "is anyone in this main?";
- "is the defense contesting mid?";
- "how many defenders are on A?";
- "is anyone rotating?".
A default with no questions is just wasted time. A default with clear questions, by contrast, sets up the most important decision of the round: where to hit.
