Advanced game sense and mindset - 15.6
Watching the pros: what to copy and what not to
In one line: From the pros you copy the principles (position, timing, utility used together, communication), not the individual plays. Much of what they do works because they are an organized team: copying it alone can make your game worse.
Why watch them
Watching pro matches is one of the best ways to understand how VALORANT is played at the highest level: how mid is taken, how a site is executed, how a retake is played. But it is also an easy way to learn the wrong things.
The reason is simple: pros play in organized teams, with hours of practice together, a playbook, perfect communication and opponents of the same level. Many of their plays only work in that context. Copying them in a game with four strangers can make your game worse.
The key is telling principles (which hold at every level) apart from plays (which depend on context).
