Advanced game sense and mindset - 15.4
Reviewing your own matches methodically
In one line: Reviewing a match only helps if you do it with a question: a few chosen rounds, watched from your view and the enemy's, pausing at the moments you made decisions. At the end, one thing to change.
Read first: Learning from mistakes: ten questions for every lost round
Why review
In a match you only see what you see: your screen, in real time, under pressure. Reviewing a match you can pause, go back, look at the minimap calmly, see what your teammates and the enemy were doing. Many mistakes that look like bad luck in the match become obvious on review.
The risk is spending hours and learning nothing. Watching a match like a video, start to finish, is pleasant but almost useless: you notice the kills, not the decisions. A useful review has a method: a question, a few rounds, pauses at the right moments, and a conclusion.
