Playing as a team - 14.6
Practicing as a team
In one line: A team improves with three tools: practice matches with a goal, methodical match review and small, measurable goals. Playing lots of matches without a goal is fun, but improves little.
Why playing is not enough
Many teams "practice" by playing lots of matches. You improve a bit, but slowly: every match is different, mistakes repeat without anyone noticing, and what works never gets locked in.
Real practice has three ingredients: a goal (what we want to improve), a tool (practice match, custom game, review) and a measure (how we know it improved). It does not take much time: one hour with a goal is worth more than three hours of random matches.
