Attack - 9.5
Switching sites or committing
In one line: Sometimes the attack finds that the site it chose is well held and has to decide whether to switch. Switching costs time and a dangerous path; committing costs hard fights. And not having seen anyone is no reason to abandon the plan.
When to switch
The attack chooses a site based on information, but sometimes, getting closer, it finds the site is better held than expected. The typical signs:
- too many defenders (a stack: three or four players on one site);
- lots of defensive utility used straight away on the entrances, a sign the defense was expecting you;
- a lost first fight that leaves the attack at four against an intact defense.
In these cases committing means fighting in bad conditions. But there is an important detail: if the defense is stacked on one site, the other one is weaker. Switching sites exploits exactly that.
