Duelist

Yoru

In one line: The deception duelist: he creates copies of himself to make enemies waste shots, blinds with bouncing flashes, teleports behind them and with his ultimate crosses the map without being seen. Hard to play, but in expert hands he breaks any defense.

Abilities

Yoru's kit is built to deceive the enemy about where you are and what you are doing:

  • Fakeout: an echo that turns into a copy of you and runs forward. You can also place it still and activate it later. If an enemy shoots it, the copy explodes and blinds anyone in front of it;
  • Blindside: a fragment you throw that, after hitting a surface, explodes into a flash. The bounce lets you blind around a corner without exposing yourself;
  • Gatecrash (signature): a tether that travels along the ground; you can teleport to wherever it is. It can also be left stationary, as an anchor for an escape or an attack from behind;
  • Dimensional Drift (ultimate): you enter your own dimension, where enemies can neither see nor hit you. You can move around the map, gather information and come out wherever you want. Since patch 11.08, inside the ultimate you cannot use Blindside or set up Fakeout, but you can use Gatecrash and trigger copies you placed earlier.

When to pick

Pick Yoru when:

  • you want a duelist capable of attacks from behind and very aggressive lurks: Gatecrash takes you where the enemy is not looking;
  • the team needs pressure on a second side while the others execute: a Yoru appearing on the flank pulls defenders off the site;
  • you know the maps and rotation timings well, because his value depends on knowing where the enemies will be;
  • you like playing with your head more than with aim alone: fakes, noises, copies, teleports.

Yoru is very strong against defenses that react to sounds and rotate early: with Fakeout and Gatecrash you can make the enemy believe you are where you are not.

Another reason to pick him is variety: an enemy who has worked out how you play tends to wait for you in the same spots. Yoru can break that habit on his own, appearing where nobody is looking and making the defense doubt every sound it hears.
