Damage and range

The knife is the melee weapon everyone always has. It has a quick attack and a heavier one; from behind and at point-blank range it can kill, but only if you reach the enemy without them shooting you. We do not list damage values: in real matches they matter very little.

When to buy it

You do not buy it. You mostly use it to move: with the knife out you move faster than with a heavy gun, so many players hold it during long rotations and early in the round, when the enemy is far away.

When not to

Whenever you might run into an enemy. Switching from knife to gun takes a moment, and in a duel that moment is the difference between winning and losing. Near areas where enemies could be, hold your gun.

What it beats and what beats it

It only beats someone who does not see you coming, at contact range. It loses to any firearm if the enemy sees you.

How to use it

  • Use it to run through safe areas, then switch back to your gun before entering contested ground.
  • Do not use it to be "funny" in an important round: it is almost always a pointless risk.
  • Remember that running with the knife makes as much noise as running with any gun.
  • Before a long rotation, check the minimap: if the route passes near areas where attackers could be, keep your gun out.
