Tempo
In one line: The pace of a round: how quickly a team moves, decides and executes.
What it means
Tempo is the speed at which you play a round. A fast tempo puts on pressure: the defense has less time to organize and rotate (fast hit). A slow tempo gathers information and waits for the opponent's mistake (default). Many teams change tempo within the same round: slow at first, then very fast once they commit.
The point is not which tempo is better but changing it: a team that always plays at the same pace becomes easy to read.
An example
For the first 50 seconds your team plays slowly, gathering info in mid. Then, the moment you see a defender rotate, you speed up and hit the site within six seconds: the defense has no time to react.
