Glossary

IGL

In one line: The in-game leader: the player who makes the plans and guides the team during the round.

What it means

The IGL (in-game leader) calls the strategies: where to go on attack, how to set up on defense, when to change plan, what to buy. They do not have to be the best player: they need to see the big picture and speak clearly.

In games with strangers there is often no IGL. All it takes is one person suggesting a simple plan and the others following it: an average plan everyone follows beats five different plans.

An example

At the start of the round the IGL says: "default, then B if mid is empty". At 45 seconds mid is empty and they call "B, smoke and flash". Everyone knows what to do without arguing.
